What it's made of

  • Frame: 24 double ribs in fibreglass on a painted steel shaft
  • Canopy: black, UPF50+ UV coating, blocks 99% of UV rays
  • Night: reflective strip on every rib
  • Opening: one-button automatic open and close
  • Handle: oval carabiner hook
  • Size: 58 cm ribs, about 30 cm closed, about 500 g

How to use it

  1. Open: undo the strap and press the button once.
  2. Close: press again to fold the canopy, then push the shaft back in by hand until it clicks.
  3. Carry: wrap the strap and clip the hook onto a bag loop or strap.
  4. Store: let the umbrella dry before putting it in its storage sleeve.

Size and weight

  • Closed: about 30 cm. Fits a work bag, a backpack or the car door pocket.
  • Open: 58 cm ribs. Room for you and your bag, or two people close together.
  • Weight: about 500 g, a small water bottle. Sturdy, not pound-shop light.

Will it survive a proper gust?

Yes. You know the umbrella that turns inside out at the first gust of wind and never goes back properly. That one has 6 thin metal ribs. This one has 24 double ribs in fibreglass.

  • Fibreglass bends and springs back instead of staying bent.
  • In an extreme gust it may fold, then comes straight back into shape.
  • If it fails in the first 90 days, you get your money back.

Shipping and returns

☔ Wind-tested double-rib frame

A man's hand opening the carabiner clip on the handle of a folded beige umbrella, on a wet terraced street

Left on the train? Not this brolly.

Plenty of umbrellas never get the chance to break. They get left on the train, in a café or by the office door, the minute the rain stops. Which is why people say: buy a cheap one, you'll only lose it.

StormHook's handle has a built-in clip. Hook it onto a bag loop or strap and it stays with your things, without taking up another hand.

Sorted in 3 steps

  1. A man standing under an open umbrella on a rainy terraced street, a bag of shopping in his other hand

Rain starts. Press the button once. It opens on its own, even with a bag of shopping in your other hand.

  2. A man at his front door folding a beige umbrella closed

At the door, press again and it folds. Push the shaft back in by hand until it clicks, then wrap the strap.

  3. A man walking down a wet street with a folded beige umbrella clipped to his backpack strap

Clip the hook to your bag, your pushchair or a chair. It comes home with you, not with the 18:12.

What buyers say about this umbrella

Rated 5

Used this today for a track meet where a small storm rolled in and it was great the wind tried to flip it and it was like nope love it!

Rated 5

I thought the handle might be annoying, but it's actually a lifesaver! You can easily hook it onto a small bag when there's no room inside, so you don't have to carry it in your hand or worry about losing it.

Rated 5

The best part of this one is it also closes with a one-handed push of a button! Say what? How easy is that? ... if your hands are full and you're trying to get in the door, this feature is the best.

Rated 5

Bought this after realizing I needed a user friendly design when getting in and out of the car in heavy rain. Works great.

Rated 5

Another feature I really appreciate is the reflective strip around the edge. I live in Florida and often walk my dog in the evening during the rainy season, so it's nice knowing I'm much more visible in the dark.

Rated 5

Bought for my husband who walks to work, rain or shine. He's a tall guy and this easily covers him and his backpack. He particularly likes the closed handle with clip. ... Liked it so much we bought another to keep in the car.

Fair questions, straight answers

Will it really hold in strong wind?

Yes, that is what the frame is for.

  • The usual story: inside out at the first gust, broken spokes, in the bin. That is thin metal ribs, which stay bent. 24 double ribs in fibreglass bend under a gust and spring back.
  • In an extreme gust it can fold. Point it into the wind and it comes back into shape.
  • If it ever breaks in the first 90 days, you get your money back.

Will it cover me and my bag?

  • Open: 58 cm ribs. Enough for you and your bag, or two people close together.
  • Closed: about 30 cm. Fits a work bag, a backpack or the car door pocket.

Is it hard to close?

One press closes it. Then you push the handle in by hand.

  • Press the button: the canopy closes on its own.
  • Push the handle back into the shaft until it clicks. It takes a firm push: that is the spring that opens it by itself next time.
  • Wrap the strap around it and it stays closed.

Is it heavy?

About 500 g, the weight of a small bottle of water.

  • Heavier than a pound-shop brolly. The frame is built to take wind, not to be light.
  • Made to live clipped to your bag, in your work bag or in the car door, not in a jacket pocket.

Does it protect from the sun too?

Yes. The canopy has a UV coating rated UPF50+ that blocks 99% of UV rays. It works as a sun umbrella in summer.

What is in the box?

One storage sleeve with every umbrella in the 3-pack and 5-pack, at no extra charge. With 1 umbrella, the sleeve is optional.

  • 1-pack: 1 umbrella (storage sleeve optional)
  • 3-pack: 3 umbrellas + 3 storage sleeves
  • 5-pack: 5 umbrellas + 5 storage sleeves

Choose each umbrella's colour in the bundle. Every umbrella has an attached wrap strap. Let it dry before storing it in the sleeve.

How does shipping work?

Take it out in proper British rain. Keep it only if it holds up.

In 2024 the UK averaged 165 days of rain (Met Office), so you won't wait long to test it. Not convinced? Write to us. Full refund.
